Our Mission

To build safer and stronger communities through proactive, responsive, and innovative training and technical assistance.

What We Do

Organizations within the criminal legal system oftentimes work with limited resources. Whether the challenge is time, funds, or expertise, organizations don’t always have the ability to start new initiatives or even address issues as they arise. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) National Training Assistance Center (NTTAC) exists to help fill these gaps, keep organizations moving forward, and, ultimately, create safer and stronger communities.

To do so, BJA NTTAC provides innovative, no-cost training and technical assistance (TTA) to organizations within the policing and crime, courts, corrections and criminal and legally connected community-based spaces. BJA NTTAC utilizes a cadre of subject matter experts with a wide variety of expertise across the criminal legal system to assess the needs of organizations and tailor solutions unique to each community’s needs.

Examples of past TTA engagements include:

  • Conducting assessments of policing, courts, jails, and reentry programs
  • Developing specialized outreach courts, such as homeless courts and mental health courts
  • Creating strategic plans to implement evidence-based best practices

BJA NTTAC is eager to understand the landscape and goals of each entity we work with and to make connections with experts who can help.
