The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan requested a refresher training for their team members regarding the Training Key Components and opioid-related topics such as MAT and substance-exposed newborns. Upon expressions of interest from neighboring tribes, including the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Indians, the Bay Mills Indian Community, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the training was expanded to a regional training to serve the northern Michigan-region of tribes. In a collaborative planning process, national speakers were paired with local practitioners to produce an agenda that ultimately included: the Tribal 10 Key Components and NADCP Drug Court Best Practice Standards, Medication-Assisted Treatment and TeleHealth, a Judges Panel, a Coordinators Panel, Substance-Exposed Newborns and Maternal Health, A Family-Focused Approach, and Grant Funding.

The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe requested a refresher training for their new team members, including training specific to the opioid crisis. Upon outreach to neighboring tribes, there appeared to be significant interest for a regional training. The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe donated space, and collaborated with TLPI to develop a comprehensive agenda that featured local practitioners. TLPI and the Saginaw Chippewa team conducted bi-weekly conference calls leading up to the event.
TLPI staff Lauren van Schilfgaarde, Kristina Pacheco, Jordan Martinson and Marlon Footracer attended the training and coordinated registration, materials, and speakers. The agenda included the Tribal 10 Key Components and NADCP Drug Court Best Practice Standards, Medication-Assisted Treatment and TeleHealth, a Judges Panel, a Coordinators Panel, Substance-Exposed Newborns and Maternal Health, A Family-Focused Approach, and Grant Funding.
