The National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), with the support of BJA funding, will be facilitating the 2018 States of the States Cybercrime Consortium Meeting August 22–23, 2018 at the Thryv Hotel and Conference Center in Dallas, Texas.
Working in conjunction with the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies (ASCIA) Cybercrime Committee, NW3C invited one representative from each state to attend this 2-day event, with travel, food, and hotel expenses covered for each participant. To date, representatives from 48 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have confirmed their attendance. Several prosecutors also plan to attend, as well as representatives from strategic partners such as IACP, PERF, SEARCH, NGA, and ODNI.
The goal of this meeting is for attendees to share ideas and successes among the states to help and learn from each other. There is great value in getting state cybercrime investigators and/or prosecutors together in person to talk about emerging issues and to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and develop networks and contacts.
NW3C has facilitated State of the States Meetings with BJA grant funding in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2016. In the past, these meetings have been attended by an individual from a state agency—e.g., State Police, Attorney General, State Bureau of Criminal Investigation—with supervisory or managerial responsibility for computer crime/digital forensics. From the police side, ranks have ranged from trooper to superintendent.
