The agency is building a diversion program using the LEAD Model and wanted more information on other diversion programs that better fit their community. Law enforcement buy-in is one of the challenges the agency is facing. Law enforcement is concerned about the lack of accountability beyond the completion of a behavioral health assessment.

9/30: CHJ scheduled the initial meeting on September 30 to learn about their interest in other diversion programs. After we learned that their county is not receptive to the LEAD Model of harm reduction, the agency looked for other options. CHJ explained the 5 pathways and provided examples of how similar jurisdictions are using hybrid models as well. Other resources we included were two case studies: Pathways to Diversion Case Studies: Naloxone Plus Pathways to Diversion and the Case Studies: Officer Intervention. The next step is to coordinate a call that will include the LEAD coordinator.
The next step is to have the agency's LEAD coordinator and treatment provider on the call. The next call is scheduled for the second week in December.
12/21: Call rescheduled due to the holidays for January 21.
1/21: CHJ and Burke County's LEAD Coordinator was on the call. The coordinator mentioned that officer buy-in is an issue due to the community being more conservative. They expressed interest in using one of the five pathways. Our national partner from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) joined the call to discuss different site case studies and other resources for their agency to consider. 2/4 Resources identified on previous calls were sent and TTA was concluded.
