Joan Brody Work with Crime Survivors
Joan researched and identified multiple federal and state public grant opportunities where LASD and/or Crime Survivors were eligible to apply. She discussed many of these in depth with LASD Captain Mike Hannemann and Crime Survivor’s CEO Patricia Wenskunas. From January through July 2021, as LASD and Crime Survivors researched funding opportunities, Joan helped the develop a Crime Survivors-led grant strategy that will be used to prioritize funding needs for the upcoming FY22 grant season. To develop the first Crime Survivors Grant Strategy, Joan conducted one-on-one and group phone conferences, presented background on the grant seeking process, shared grant strategy materials (including Grants Idea Sheets and detailed steps for developing a grant strategy), held grant strategy brainstorming discussions and helped complete and revise the first grant strategy draft. To inform future Crime Survivors goals and objective, Joan recommended that Crime Survivors collect and analyze process and outcome data and introduced Patricia to Dr. Jessica Herbert, who can help Crime Survivors with this task.
Milestones are an element, activity, work product, or key task associated with completing the TTA (e.g. kick-off meeting, collect data from stake holders, deliver initial data analysis).
Please complete the fields below, if applicable, to create a milestone for this TTA.
Please respond to the Performance Metrics below. The Performance Metrics questions are based on the TTA Type indicated in the General Information section of the TTA.
Dr. Jessica Herbert will review the Grants Agenda and use it in her strategic planning/data collection and analysis project starting in September/October 2021. Crime Survivors has many ideas and strategies with associated needs for expanding and enhancing victim services in partnership with the LASD. By the end of Dr. Herbert’s project, Crime Survivors will be able to revise and focus their next draft of the Grant Agenda on prioritized needs. Moreover, Dr. Herbert will help Crime Survivors understand how to use data to inform ongoing policies and programming. She will help them identify new funding opportunities and possibly serve as a research partner on a future grant-funding project.
