On January 18-19, 2023, members of the IIR SLATT team met with BJA leadership and select federal partners to discuss current and future goals and opportunities for the SLATT Program. The meeting on January 18 convened SLATT team members and BJA Senior Policy Advisor David Lewis. BJA Director Karhlton Moore and Associate Deputy Director Vince Davenport also briefly met with the team. The meeting focused the history of the SLATT program, its current state, and how the program will expand under the 2022 grant. The group discussed the SLATT Program in terms of several factors, to include course development and curriculum, targeted audience, and delivery modes.
The January 19 meeting convened BJA leadership, to include Director Moore and Associate Deputy Director Davenport; Department of Justice senior policy advisors and program managers representing the National Security Division, Office of Justice Programs, and BJA; senior representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence; and leadership and SLATT team members from the Institute for Intergovernmental Research. The meeting began with a SLATT Program overview led by BJA Senior Policy Advisor David Lewis, which focused on the historical background of the program and an overview of SLATT focus areas, elements, training courses, priorities, and resources. A roundtable discussion followed, with key federal partners providing high level contributions and commitments to collaborate with the SLATT Program to serve as a force multiplier in shared mission spaces.
