The Knowledge Lab participated in a panel at the BJA Violent Crime Reduction Panel on December 11, 2023. The session began with a presentation from the Northern District of Georgia about their Violent Repeat Offender (VRO) program, which was developed a decade ago. The presentation was followed by a moderated discussion about implementing focused deterrence models to ensure the integration of constitutional policing practices. The discussion covered the importance of considering outcomes beyond crime, co-producing programs with the community, and considering the individual rights and needs of those targeted as part of the intervention. The panel closed with an overview of the resources and technical assistance available from the Bureau of Justice Assistance's Law Enforcement Knowledge Lab. Speakers included:
Moderator: Dr. Laura Wyckoff, Senior Director, National Policing Institute
Paul Noel, Chief, Knoxville, Tennessee, Police Department
Rebecca Boatright, General Counsel, Seattle, Washington, Police Department
Ryan K. Buchanan, United States Attorney, Northern District of Georgia
