The SAMHSA Gains Center contacted TLPI for assistance in a request from Lummi Nation. The THWC team requested examples of culturally appropriate case plans to increase participant engagement, examples that other tribes use, what is included, how often should case plan be revisited, how "compliance" and "progress" language out, replace them with better language or other measures of wellness.
SAMHSA will provide a training on trauma-informed assessments and how assessments should be used, how to use the assessment to engage participants and better serve their needs, and confidentiality.
An initial inquiry call occurred July 24, 2023 with Lummi THWC Coordinator, Tania Vega, to gather information on what Lummi technical assistance needs are and how TLPI and SAMHSA can meet those needs. TLPI will connect Penobscot's Judge Mehnert and Rhonda DeContie with Lummi Nation to assist in judicial training and cultural incorporation in a peer-to-peer manner. Connection with the Child Welfare Capacity Building Center for Tribe's, Suzanne Garcia, will also be made.
SAMHSA will provide Lummi trauma assessment training.
