On June 11, 2024, members of the State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training (SLATT) Program team, and four subject-matter experts (SMEs), delivered the first of two webinars titled, “How to Build a Threat Assessment Threat Management Team.” The 90-minute webinar was based on a Prepare & Ready: Executive Planning for Agencies in Response to Extremism (PREPARE) training lesson, and was attended by law enforcement executives and mid-level managers. The webinar included welcoming remarks from the Bureau of Justice Assistance senior policy advisor and consisted of a brief SLATT Program overview and a comprehensive presentation focused on the key concepts and requirements for building scalable threat assessment threat management (TATM) teams, as detailed by experts in the field who currently manage TATM teams for their law enforcement agencies. Utilizing case studies, the SMEs demonstrated how TATM teams serve as a means of preventing or mitigating the risk of targeted violence, while also addressing the challenges and lessons learned from a law enforcement and clinical perspective. Approximately 125 participants of 247 confirmed registrants attended the webinar, and at the conclusion of the event, were provided with QR codes to access presentation and SLATT resources, and to provide evaluative feedback. Of the attendees who provided feedback, 89% found the information useful, indicated that it increased their knowledge, agreed that the webinar was “good” or “excellent,” and that the speakers were “excellent” or “satisfactory.” In addition, 84% of respondents agreed that they were “very likely” or “likely” to attend future webinars. Participants commented that the information provided was “fantastic and engaging,” and that the “lessons learned were really helpful, as well as the different [TATM] models for [preventing] targeted violence.”
