During this reporting period, the Vermont Department of Corrections managed to meet with the coaches on a monthly basis. At the beginning of this period, the Vermont Department of Corrections (VT DOC) grant team wrapped up their regional PCM training, which took place September 30th to October 2nd. The first portion of the training was presented to the PCMs exclusively, and the site asked superintendents and leadership to join the second portion to receive the information alongside PCMs and to share their input and experiences. The training covered a range of topics including a deep dive of the PREA Standards, historical components, practical applications and uses of the Standards, and a review of the tools available to PCMs. The grant team conducted a pre- and post-test to measure what the participants had learned and the team was proud to have put together an interactive and dynamic training. One of their proudest moments was inviting the team who works on Department policy, as the staff was able to identify areas where the Department lacked language that reflected the Standards and worked with that team to draft language in real-time that could be used, pending approval. The site used the concerns and questions gleaned from the trainings to inform what additional pieces of information to include in their manual. The site revised their PCM onboarding materials to match the information in the manual and began working on the web-based training modules. Toward the end of the reporting period, the site held various stakeholder meetings to discuss their unit's goals for the new year, and their team decided to meet in the new year to map out the content for their podcast. Additionally, the site submitted a GAM to use grant funds to support their team's attendance of the National Sexual Assault Conference in April. The coaches continue to feel optimistic about the agency's ability to complete the remaining tasks that they have outlined in their no-cost extension documents.
