Description of the Problem

The NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People, created in June, 2013, receives and classifies reports of incidents and allegations of abuse and neglect of vulnerable persons by care-givers in NYS operated or certified support programs in the disabilities fields. The strict reporting and intensive investigative processes and requirements - and the agency's authority to investigate and prosecute criminal offenses - is new and even foreign to many of the service providers we oversight. The TTAC will assist the Justice Center in assuring that its policies, procedures, staffing and training are in-keeping with best practices for serving our population while ensuring due process and justice for all involved.
