CHJ TA Center leadership proposed and had accepted a session on the integration of deflection and reentry. This session featured the TA Center Director, a SCA grantee (Freedom Life Ministries of NC), and a SME partner from The Fletcher Group. The grantee, SME and TA Director also met with the BJA Policy Advisor to the COSSUP Program, which was represented at the conference. The grantee intends to apply for a COSSUP grant to expand his reentry program to include the deflection model.

CHJ staff and partner SMEs produced and moderated a Workshop on Collaboration between Community-based and Correctional entities, 3 grantee organizations and 5 of their staff and stakeholders presented their experience and successes. CHJ staff facilitated participation of 2 grantee organizations in a Workshop and 1 grantee organization in a Plenary Session. CHJ staff and SMEs produced, hosted and facilitated 3 Breakout sessions with 16 small group topic focused discussions.

The Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking (ICESAHT) has requested a 90-minute PREA 101 advocacy training on May 21, 2024. The session will provide an overview of corrections and PREA, with a focus on the role of advocates in providing support to incarcerated survivors. Terri Noone from the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence will explain the process for handling calls from Indiana state prisons. JDI will also provide ICESAHT with up to three (3) one-hour coaching sessions as they refine how they want to work with member agencies.

A staff attorney at the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault is working with an advocate who is trying to assist an inmate with PREA-related issues. IowaCASA has requested four (4) coaching sessions to help their legal team and others who support member agencies with advocacy of incarcerated survivors. More specifically, the coaching will focus on requests made by incarcerated survivors and appropriate advocacy services. IowaCASA is sending a survey to member organizations to learn their specific needs, including how to support incarcerated survivors.

The Survivor Empowerment Center (SEC) based in Southern Illinois has requested training for their staff and coaching sessions for their Rape Crisis Services Program Coordinator, Jennifer Short. More specifically, JDI will provide two training sessions for SEC staff and volunteers. The first session will be an overview of the criminal justice system, the PREA standards, and the role of advocates. The second session will include specific guidance for serving incarcerated survivors. Coaching sessions will focus on building relationships with corrections agencies and advising Ms.
