On behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the Institute for Intergovernmental Research is releasing the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) Statewide Expansion and Response Grant solicitation. BJA is sponsoring this initiative in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is part of a series of demonstration projects funded under the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program. These demonstration projects are designed to build capacity, foster cross-sector collaboration, and support innovation.

In 2017, the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area launched a free, user-friendly, mobile-capable tool known as the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) to track the location of suspected fatal and nonfatal overdoses and the administration of naloxone by first responders. ODMAP provides near real-time suspected overdose data across jurisdictions to support efforts to mobilize an immediate response to a sudden increase or spike in overdose events.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) recently announced the creation of the Law Enforcement/First Responder Diversion Mentor Program, scheduled to begin on October 1, 2019.

TASC, Inc. (Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities), is a not-for-profit organization that provides health recovery management services for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders. Since 1976, the organization has provided and/or facilitated access to community-based treatment and recovery support services for individuals who are involved in public systems such as criminal and juvenile justice, corrections, child welfare, public aid, and public housing.

The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan requested a refresher training for their team members regarding the Training Key Components and opioid-related topics such as MAT and substance-exposed newborns. Upon expressions of interest from neighboring tribes, including the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Indians, the Bay Mills Indian Community, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the training was expanded to a regional training to serve the northern Michigan-region of tribes.
