Violence reduction

There seems to be increasing concern with the belief that crime, and in particular violent crime, is increasing. As a crime prevention organization, we are looking to the Bureau of Justice to help address these concerns at our conference. In particular, any programs specific to preventing violent crime and/or alleviating the perception of increasing risk that our practitioners could take back to their communities would be most welcome.

We'd like assistance bringing outside faculty to help develop and deliver a locally appropriate in-person and recorded training.

The training will bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement with the goal of building trust, overcome biases, and improve relations. The training program, is a POST certified curriculum. Each Game Changer event is intended to provide training value for both law enforcement and community members. Game Changer will bring together probationers in custody and the probation officers for moderated focus groups. Together there will be a discussion on community problems and devise solutions.

Variate submitted a request to BJA NTTAC for organizational development support related to policymaking, law enforcement, and funding. The BJA NTTAC team followed up by email with relevant resources and closed the request due to an unresponsive requestor.

The Delaware State Police requested an evidence-based de-escalation that combines social, tactical, and decision-making skills into a unified program. BJA NTTAC referred the request to the Community Oriented Services COPS Office.

The Delaware State Police is seeking assistance from BJA NTTAC for training that will enhance Officer competencies in tactical de-escalation. Delaware State PD is seeking an evidence-based police training system that combines social, tactical, and decision-making skills into a unified program. The training will use scientifically validated methods to strengthen officers’ capacity to be agile, adaptable, and creative in situations where safety, communication, and trust are essential.

The Memphis, Tennessee Police Department requested case management and detective function assessments to evaluate current practices and produce strategic plans to efficiently and effectively investigate violent crime in Memphis. The requestor withdrew the request.
