Related to this grant, but reported under another award, is the Intelligence Summit task team effort. Work continued during this reporting period by IIR managing the six concurring CICC task teams, established to address the six focus areas outlined in the 2022 Intelligence Summit—Information Sharing in a Dynamic and Evolving Threat Environment: Post-Event Report. This effort is funded under a separate BJA/DHS award, grant number 2020-D6-BX-K001, and activities are reported there.

This course aims to enhance cultural competency and foster positive relationships with Indigenous communities and the importance of cultural competency in lawyering and policing. Participants will learn about the intersection of culture and community engagement, historical context, and building cultural awareness through self-reflection and bias awareness. Through practical application, participants will use dialogue and collaboration to build trust, accountability, acknowledge historical injustices, and develop ongoing cultural competency.

This course provides the advanced skills and knowledge necessary to analyze data on iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad) and Android devices at an advanced level. Students use forensically-sound tools and techniques to analyze potential evidence, employing advanced techniques to uncover evidence potentially missed or misrepresented by commercial forensic tools. Topics include identifying potential threats to data stored on devices, available acquisition options, accessing locked devices, and the default folder structure.

This course addresses the critical need for well-trained intelligence analysts to interpret growing amounts of information. Topics include the intelligence cycle, analytical thinking skills, the importance of strategic analysis, communication and social media analysis, recommendation development, and legal and ethical issues. Students work hands-on with specialized software to synthesize information and develop various products of intelligence.

This training was delivered in collaboration with the Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center. The Take Action: Make the R.I.G.H.T. Choice and Intervene training is an eight-hour instructor-led course designed to teach, encourage, and empower law enforcement personnel to actively intervene when needed to prevent colleagues from committing policy or procedure mistakes or unprofessional, unethical, or criminal conduct. Officers will learn the powerful influence that every officer, regardless of rank, can have on a colleague’s conduct and behavior.
