Site visit to Chicago to observe Community Violence Interventionists interact with community stakeholders.
PERF received a number of TTA requests from agencies in and around the DMV. This regional training seminar was an opportunity for local agencies to discuss cross-jurisdictional violent crime challenges and strategies and for PERF, and subject matter experts, to provide training on innovative strategies and educate folks about the free resources available through this project.
From July 1 to December 31, 2024, the TTA team provided targeted training and technical assistance to site-based grantees via email. These communications focused on key areas such as program implementation, removing barriers to successful program completion, connecting sites to valuable resources, sharing best and promising practices, and fostering community connections. Specifically, the emails emphasized strategies for building relationships with law enforcement, first responders, and healthcare providers to enhance program outcomes and community impact.
We met with Oregon's SAA office to discuss CPTED; we also discussed other priority areas for SCIP funding in hopes that they will be able to resubmit their plan to BJA soon. OR also asked about CVI related subawards in other states, so we sent OR a host of information about subawards that were specifically related to CVI.
CSG Justice Center staff participated in BJA’s launch of the Community Supervision Resource Center: Assessing Today’s State of the Field and Meeting Evolving Challenges by hosting a workshop, Partnerships that Work: Developing Strategic Alignments to Establish and Promote Safety in Our Communities and Enhance Reentry Success.
LISC with national TTA partners CNA and IIR, helped facilitate a Public Safety Partnership (PSP) site visit where 8 federal grantees came to Boston, MA to learn about the evolution of CVI efforts and partnerships. This led to ongoing conversations between LISC, CNA, and IIR around sharing the same story with their strategic site liaisons who indicated they are struggling to communicate what CVI is to their sites. On 7/10/24, LISC participated in the PSP Biweekly Site team meetings and presented the foundational elements of CVI to the site liaisons.
The National CVIPI Center TTA Request tool is critical for our ability to assess community violence intervention (CVI) needs in the field and to help prioritize delivery of TTA topics. During this reporting period, LISC received and responded to 54 TTA requests from the field. LISC continues to track, analyze and report these requests
regularly to BJA.
National CVIPI Center staff attended the 2024 NCJA Forum on Criminal Justice, presenting with OJP Leadership (Eddie Bocanegra) and state leaders (Damon Bocante, NY and Colleen Curtin, CA) on state CVI training and technical assistance efforts. Panel was attended by about 75 participants and was met with great interest from the field. LISC and BJA have discussed potential future efforts to be more intentional about utilizing the CVIPI Center to support state CVI efforts.
LISC attended the 2024 PSP Summit as an exhibitor. There, we engaged DOJ Public Safety Partnership (PSP) grantees from around the country and shared National CVIPI Center resources and explored potential opportunities for future engagement with the National CVIPI Center.
LISC delivered a presentation for Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) to about 32 staff from CVI organizations on federal resources for CVI organizations and discussed capacity building around application development. The symposium was designed to bring together violence interrupters (VI) from various programs across the nation for mutual learning, collaboration, and advocacy.
