JSS is providing support for the adoption of BWC within correctional agencies, jails and sheriffs’ offices, understanding that their deployment, uses, retention and investigations are significantly different from police agency applications of the technology. This effort supports Category 2 grantees as well as some Category 1 Sheriff's Offices.

CHJ TA Center leadership proposed and had accepted a session on the integration of deflection and reentry. This session featured the TA Center Director, a SCA grantee (Freedom Life Ministries of NC), and a SME partner from The Fletcher Group. The grantee, SME and TA Director also met with the BJA Policy Advisor to the COSSUP Program, which was represented at the conference. The grantee intends to apply for a COSSUP grant to expand his reentry program to include the deflection model.

Advancing Data in Corrections Summer Conference (August 16th-17th, 2024) - Conference hosted by CSG Justice Center staff in Nashville, TN for corrections professionals and individuals in similar data-focused positions. The conference had participants from 45 states.

Site visit - September 9 -12, the CSG Justice Center staff traveled to North Carolina to meet with NC DAC staff and House Justice Public Safety Members to discuss current project goals and gauge interest in future JRI work.

8/22: CSG Justice Center met with Rob Jeffreys (Director, NDCS), Dawn Renee Smith (Deputy Director, Rehabilitative Services, NDCS) and Janee Pannkuk (Assistant Deputy Director, Reentry, NDCS) at the Central Office in Lincoln, NE to debrief the site visit and discuss additional oversight responsibilities and the allocation of resources, with a focus on enhancing reentry programs to improve parole outcomes. (3 participants, 1 agency)
