The CIT Center was contacted by News Reporter Ron Regan, Cleveland, Ohio requesting assistance in making a film documentary of mental illness crisis response -- the CIT model – a community approach. The Memphis CIT staff is participating within numerous contacts throughout Durham, North Carolina in efforts to bring Mr. Regan’s request to fruition. One primary objective of this request is filming of a working Durham CIT Officer. The CIT partnerships of North Carolina are supporting the exposure and promoting of CIT as a community program: NAMI North Carolina and Durham NAMI, Durham City Police, Durham Sheriff Department and North Carolina Division of MH/DD/SAS - Community Policy Management Section. The Durham CIT partnerships will make an excellent film staging for the CIT model; beyond limitations of “just” training. The requested film project of Mr. Regan (Cleveland, Ohio) was in part due to a recent Justice Department Report from another state. Mr. Regan wishes to capture (film) the Durham CIT program as representing community policing at its best. The North Carolina (Durham) CIT partnerships were receptive to presenting the Durham CIT model as a community program – possible filming will be conducted February 2015. This Activity was closed out at the ending of this reporting period - December 31, 2014, but was reopen for the reporting period of January - June 2015.
