Objective 2: Technology Development Technical Assistance
In November, Recidiviz created the first, most basic version of the incident labeling model and used this model as a starting point in the first of a three-part series of discussions with WADOC's research and technology team on Machine Learning Model Training.
At the beginning of the month, CSG Justice Center staff conducted a site visit to Washington, visiting WADOC field offices in Spokane, Tacoma, and Olympia, and met with the leadership team to advance the technical assistance project on helping WADOC institute preventative measures for people who may abscond. During the visit, CSG Justice Center staff met with representatives from community corrections offices and the Community Response Unit (CRU) to gain insight into the state's supervision population, particularly focusing on who absconds and some of the signs or primary reasons people abscond. The team also conducted observations of officer-client interactions to gain some insight into the various tactics and strategies used to engage clients, especially early on in their time on supervision.
