PERF received a number of TTA requests from agencies in and around the DMV. This regional training seminar was an opportunity for local agencies to discuss cross-jurisdictional violent crime challenges and strategies and for PERF, and subject matter experts, to provide training on innovative strategies and educate folks about the free resources available through this project.

Priority Area 1: Facilitate a cross-system data match between Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Department of Corrections (DOC) to identify the overlapping population of people who have behavioral health challenges in state and move through the county and state criminal justice system and to identify high utilizers of these systems.

The conference program provides training for all government attorneys involved in prosecuting capital cases: including trial, appellate, post-conviction, and habeas prosecutors. We will try to have something for beginning prosecutors to seasoned veterans. The details of the program are inside the brochure. This is a nationwide annual conference.

The NGA Public Safety and Legal Counsels team hosted nine monthly briefings for the Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPA) network, with an average of 10 states and territories represented on each call. Topics included human trafficking, homelessness and reentry, mass violence response and criminal justice data systems. Additionally, NGA completed over 52 technical assistance requests responding to inquiries from 22 states and territories.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) hosted 14 representatives from the Knoxville; North Miami, Florida; and Tucson Police Departments to learn about the LAPD’s COMPSTAT process. Participants were exposed to the entirety of the COMPSTAT process, including the COMPSTAT Division command, the Rampart Division, the Chief’s Office, and many other elements, such as crime analysis and Real Time Crime Center support mechanisms. The SAKI TTA Regional Trainings allow cold case sexual assault investigators from federal, state, and local criminal justice agencies to learn recommended practices to address sexual assault response and reduce violent crime. The Suspect Interviewing training, hosted in Research Triangle Park, NC, will host opportunities for attendees to learn suspect interviewing techniques specific to cold case sexual assaults and violent crimes. It is designed for law enforcement officers and prosecutors who are involved in investigations, interrogations, and interview processes.
