Objective 6: Provide intensive TA to 10 states, supporting the adoption and use of the Justice Counts metrics to drive decision-making.
Presentation at the Washington Administrative Office of the Courts Pre-Trial Summit 2024 alongside Justice Counts champion Leah Landon, (Criminal Justice Regional Program Manager for the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners) who presented snapshots of Thurston County data to introduce the project to other courts in Washington. (50 people representing 50 agencies).

IIR ensures that there is, within the Leadership lesson of the Fundamentals of Task Force Operations Training curriculum, instruction on the importance of data collection, as well as the value of performance measures to determine and demonstrate the effectives of the task force in addressing and reducing crime. Instruction further includes guidance on setting performance objectives, identifying key performance indicators, and an explanation of how performance measurement is used to develop task force strategies, goals, and objectives.

At BJA’s direction, in lieu of in-person courses, work was completed on the new virtual course—the Fundamentals of Task Force Operations training, which was provided to BJA for review and approval in October 2024. Refer to Objective 1 for details of this effort and a status of the course development.

NACDL and its partners offer ongoing technical assistance to capital defense teams who attended Bring-Your-Own-Case (BYOC) programs or in-office training programs conducted under the Capital Case Litigation Initiative (CCLI). This technical assistance leverages topics covered during the BYOC programs, surfaces topics that are needed in future training programs, and helps NACDL and its partners track and monitor trainee teams’ case status.

Presentation to the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys which resulted in one opt-in, 4 follow-up appointments and 3 agencies who plan to opt-in. (150 people, representing 100 agencies)
