On December 17, 2024, a webinar was hosted to introduce the new Kevin and Avonte site-based grantees to key grant stakeholders, including representatives from BJA and the TTA team. The webinar served to orient grantees to their roles and responsibilities, provide an overview of the grant program, and introduce the TTA team’s resources and support services. This session laid the foundation for effective collaboration and ensured grantees were well-equipped to implement their programs. American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN) have a long tradition of service in the U.S. military. AIAN veterans are experiencing the negative outcomes of their military service in the form of high rates of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), suicide, "functional disabilities," housing instability, and low employment rates, compared to other veterans. Thus, "access to justice" for AIAN veterans then can be particularly complex.

American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) through a partnership with the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), in support of the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Program, hosted a webinar to educate juvenile probation officers, and other stakeholders, on their role in preventing and reducing violence in K-12 school populations.

The NRTAC team, with BJA, hosted an orientation and onboarding session to welcome the awardees of the FY2024 Local Law Enforcement Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) Integration Initiative grants. The session included representatives from the six FY2024 CGIC grantees. The purpose of the session was to inform grantees about the CGIC concept, the site assessment process, grant requirements, and the assistance NRTAC will provide them throughout their grants.

Inspired by the recently released Guidance on Meaningful Community Engagement, this webinar highlighted key insights from the document. It focused on strategies for engaging with community-based organizations, enhancing language accessibility, and improving accessibility in data collection and evaluation. These topics were explored by a diverse panel of subject matter experts, including former SAAs, retired law enforcement chiefs, NCJA Data Center staff, and language access specialists.

A crime victim’s rights do not end upon conviction. Often, victims and their families need assistance in establishing and recovering restitution for economic losses. The goal of restitution is to help make victims whole for their economic losses. This presentation will provide general details on identifying what constitutes economic loss subject to restitution. Additionally, it will offer pointers on how to utilize collection tools available in the criminal justice system to recover restitution.
