The LISC Safety & Justice Team utilized its varied and lengthy experience to deliver guidance and support to Everytown for Gun Safety and provide training and resources on the relationship between place and crime, CPTED, Problem Solving methods for crime reduction and tips for collaborative partnership swith its sites and chapters. LISC produced a virtual convening for Everytown staff and partners highlighting trainings, local partnerships and local efforts resulting from project trainings, support and small grant activities.

During this webinar participants learned about the management of community-based violence intervention programs, including partnerships and relationships with public safety and social service agencies; credible messengers/staff with experience in violence and victimization; and lessons of success and failure. Participants learned about the hiring, vetting, and training of staff; requisite qualifications; and ensuring staff safety.

During this webinar participants learned about three types of community-based violence intervention programs in Milwaukee and Providence. Information was provided on how partnerships were created; resources; needs presented by individuals involved in violence and the nexus between victimization and offending; how programs are structured and the key elements; and suggestions for start-up programs.

During the webinar, participants learned about street outreach, violence interruption models, and hospital-based intervention. Speakers described origins of these intervention strategies, the agencies that often coordinate these programs, key partners, applicability to small cities and rural areas, how programs have evolved over time, and engagement with criminal justice agency contacts.

Season of Peace December 2021 Conference. The session in December also focused on the nuts and bolts of how to create a Season of Peace in partner communities. Reverend Brown and experienced practitioners discussed three areas for starting and maintaining a Season of Peace Campaign: Night Walks - initiating and continuing presence, Navigating the Prisons, and Engaging the Whole Community.

Season of Peace November 2021 Conference. This session focused on the nuts and bolts of how to create a Season of Peace in partner communities. Reverend Brown and a select panel walked through the Phases, Outcomes and Steps to Take in building the relationships necessary for a Season of Peace in early summer 2022.

Season of Peace October 2021 Conference. This initial session included an insightful discussion with youth from across the country sharing their experiences with the justice system, violence in their communities and the work they are doing to reduce the violence. They are hopeful for peace and are leading the way for the future.

PJ performed a landscape analysis of CVI programs, models, and trainers to help inform peer learning across the CVI network. He is also interviewed select BCJI sites that implemented CVI strategies as part of their BCJI approach to understand how CVI strengthened violence reduction efforts, where CVI struggled, what lessons learned can be gleaned from the work, as well as opportunities to strengthen CVI in those sites going forward through training and technical assistance.
