On May 4, 2023 TLPI staff Kelly Stoner and Jerry Gardner presented a workshop - "Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 Legislative Update and Overview." Kelly and Jerry provided an overview of the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA 2022) and provided a detailed examination of the changes/additions made to the tribal provisions of VAWA 2013.

TLPI collaborated with partner organization RuralCap for a plenary session presentation. On May 3, 2023 TLPI Consultant Korey Wahwassuck co-presented with Judge Evelyn Dolchok on joint jurisdiction courts for the Plenary #2: "Success Stories in Joint Jurisdiction Courts" at the American Indian Justice Conference. This session highlighted successful joint jurisdictional court models in Minnesota and Alaska. Joint jurisdiction courts provide an example of how tribal and state collaborations can help to improve justice system services.

The Buffalo Police Department has lost 5 officers to suicide over a two-year period. An in-person meeting was held in Buffalo with the command staff and wellness teams. A detailed assessment from these meetings has been prepared and the self-paced virtual SAFLEO Executive Leadership Workshop has been scheduled to take place during the weeks of July 31st through August 11th and the Virtual roundtable discussion will take place on August 15, 2023.

Presentation Title: Collaborative Approaches to Addressing Collateral Consequences in Tribal Justice Systems 
Learning Objectives:
Identify collateral consequences of criminal arrests and convictions.
Acquire knowledge of collaborative approaches taking place in Indian Country to address collateral consequences.
Assess potential solutions that are appropriate to implement and/or adapt into your community.

The NRTAC staff hosted a virtual meeting over Zoom to deliver the CGIC recommendations and process map to the Kansas City, Kansas, CGIC. Upon delivery of the recommendations, the Kansas City team was prepared to discuss implementation plans for each recommendation.
