The request is prompted by the Supreme Court decision about concealed carry for weapons. Hawaii has always had very restricted gun laws, never concealed carry. The department is trying to figure out both on the political front and police department front how to get into compliance. Looking for assistance with processing current backlog of about 900 permits. Need to put everything together into a shared database. Is there a federal database that the requestor needs to be interfacing with? Are there federal rules?
