On May 16, IIR hosted a PIOCoP event that welcomed both Jamie Tompkins, chief of staff for the Seattle, Washington, Police Department (SPD), and Dan Griffin, strategic advisor for the SPD. This session focused on how to get your command staff to try innovative approaches to public affairs and start fresh with community engagement.

IIR hosted a Public Information Officers Community of Practice (PIOCoP) event on February 29. During this session, communication consultant Ms. Laura McElroy and Christopher Cook, police chief and public safety director of White Settlement, Texas, discussed proactive story development and creating social content on a budget.

On May 9, IIR hosted a PCoP webinar on mental health diversion that featured Ms. Hallie Fader-Towe from the Counsel of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center; Tulsa County, Oklahoma, District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler; Executive Director and Founder Kristine Hamann with the Prosecutors’ Center for Excellence; and Diversion Manager Nicole Buccellato and Reentry Director Teresa Fuller with the Pinal County, Arizona, Attorney’s Office.

On June 20, IIR hosted a CACoP webinar that featured CNA project director Ms. Heather Perez discussing the Crime Analyst in Residence (CAR) program, which assists small law enforcement agencies in creating or improving their use of data analytics. This session also featured Ms. Amanda Bruner, a criminal intelligence expert, who presented on the Stratified Policing Model.

Tyrina facilitated the third session of the Community of Practice series with Joseph and Panelists, Bailey Davis and Jacob Revis from UAB This hour session focused on best practices for successful program implementation, overcoming challenges and identifying familiar challenges associated with supervising, training, and retaining peer recovery specialists (PRS), multidisciplinary collaboration, and community buy-in.

Tyrina facilitated the second session of the Community of Practice series with Joseph and Panelists, Darrell Keim and Si'Andra Lewis. This hour session focused on one-to-one support, including recruiting, onboarding, training and supervision for PRS, organizational readiness, and cross-training of other staff within the program.

Tyrina launched and facilitated the first session of the Community of Practice series with Joseph Sanchez. This hour session focused on establishing a foundation for Peers within the workplace, the employment process of hiring a peer recovery specialist (PRS), the role of the PRS, and the scope of work for the PRS.
