Vera site lead held a check-in call with project coordinator from the Oklahoma DOC to discuss implementation of the Designed for Dignity project.
Develop a proposal to assess the cohort of people that seek placement, or refuse to leave, restrictive housing settings, to include a virtual discussion panel intended to inform practice.
Facilitated a meeting with Illinois DOC leadership to share implementation team progress and discuss how they could help. Facilitated an exercise with implementation team to inform the messages they will share with staff about the change.
Conducted social media campaign to a national audience and direct inquiry outreach to six state agencies to solicit potential partners.
Met with Utah Department of Corrections staff on potential technical and training assistance
Wyoming Department of Corrections Honor Farm in Riverton, WY had a PREA audit and received a corrective action plan to have staff trained on Standard 115.62 regarding the steps for placement of a victim in SMU. They also requested training on Standard 115.71 (c). A three-hour virtual training was scheduled for December 9, 2024.
PRC Staff person served as a panelist in the workshop Partnering for Success: Innovative Models for Serving Incarcerated Survivors, which highlighted promising collaborative relationships between rape crisis centers and correctional facilities. Later, staff facilitated an advocate meet up with partners, Just Detention International.
PREA stakeholders planning to attend the American Correctional Association (ACA) summer conference in Nashville, TN were invited to join the PREA Management Office (PMO) and the National PREA Resource Center (PRC) for a convening held on Saturday morning, August 17, to discuss hot topics and issues in PREA. This meeting was held on site at the Music City Center during the ACA conference.
Facilitated a discussion with the implementation team preparing for leadership presentations. Assisted the team in presenting the RISE Program to all IDOC wardens and executive leaders.
Presented staff/leadership questionnaire results at PDOC's staff wellness summit.
