The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) offered a 75-minute webinar hosted by Wellness Court Specialists Angie Juárez-Monger and Alyssa Harrold to provide an overview of the FY24 Adult Treatment Court Program solicitation and the three possible application categories, solicitation goals, and proposal requirements. Application components, grant program requirements, tips and tricks of grant writing, and available resources were also reviewed.

This training program is designed to help prosecutors recognize and mitigate biases that may influence decision-making in complex homicide cases, while upholding ethical standards throughout the legal process. Throughout the training, prosecutors delve into the various forms of biases that can impact decision-making, including cognitive biases, cultural biases, and implicit biases. Emphasis is placed on understanding how biases can affect case assessment, charging decisions, plea negotiations, and trial strategies in homicide cases.

Complex Homicide and Vicarious Trauma and Victimization

Secondary trauma and victimization aka vicarious victimization isn’t foreign to prosecutors, advocates and staff members. Those feelings of stress, burn out, physical and emotional exhaustion, can and do happen, and often with what seems to be no warning. It’s time to tackle the reality of vicarious victimization with information that will assist in identification, provide tools to help get one through, and ways to build support within agencies.

The Council of Juvenile Justice Administrators (CJJA) hosts a bi-monthly meeting for the members of it's PREA Committee. Those are primarily PREA Coordinators from member agencies in CJJA. The PRC works collaboratively with CJJA to identify speakers to provide training during these meetings and answer relevant questions related to the implementation of the PREA standards.

This webinar explores the critical challenges faced by tribal populations during the post-incarceration and post-treatment reentry and reintegration process. We will examine issues such as cultural disconnection, limited access to resources, systemic discrimination and stigma, substance use disorders (SUDs), co-occurring mental health issues, and other significant barriers.

Held on July 17, 2024. This webinar was designed to provide practical strategies and insights for fostering effective collaborations to consider while developing Peacemaking courts/circles models. Participants learned how to enhance their peacemaking efforts through strong partnerships. Understanding the diverse experiences, views, and cultures of partners will help to create a safe environment for gaining consensus. Building and sustaining partnerships for peacemaking is crucial for ensuring long-term success in conflict resolution and community harmony.
