This webinar series will address secondary trauma and traumatic stress in order to help law enforcement, prosecutors, and other investigative personnel identify, reduce, and address the traumatic impact of their work in combating child sexual exploitation. 

The webinar series will detail how and why stress and trauma manifest, what signs and symptoms we should be looking out for as well as how to mitigate the effects by using everyday tools, techniques, and coping strategies. This webinar will focus on behavioral factors that can compound the response to trauma.

The Stepping Up initiative encourages counties to track data along Four Key Measures, including connecting people who have serious mental illness (SMI) to treatment and other services after discharge from jail. Communities across the country are looking for information on how to best facilitate connection to care for individuals with SMI. With the current expansion of telehealth, there is a need to discuss best approaches, other ways to connect to care, and to share tips and strategies from counties.

This webinar will examine law enforcement agency cybersecurity challenges resulting from the cyber threats faced by municipalities, counties, and state governments. The webinar will explore how a cyber incident for a law enforcement agency can impact (even lose) a criminal case for the prosecution or negatively impact the agency’s credibility in general. When providing agency cybersecurity, not all postures and solutions are the same.

Drawn from his many years of experience with officer-involved shootings, line-of-duty deaths, and “everyday traumas,” Dr. McDougall will provide the audience with the day-to-day incidents that can cause cumulative trauma and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. McDougall will share clinical scenarios that reveal the numerous ways in which officers’ professional and personal lives are impacted by cumulative trauma.

Researchers, program planners, and policy makers have access to a number of web-based resources that serve as a centralized source of information on what works in criminal and juvenile justice. These resources typically present information on the characteristics and effectiveness of various programs or practices along with a summary of the empirical evidence on their effectiveness drawn from evaluations or meta-analyses.

This webinar will explore successful examples of law enforcement/community coalitions that have produced positive outcomes. Examples of positive outcomes include increasing public awareness of opioid risks, reaching youth with critical messages regarding fentanyl, responding to fatal overdoses, reducing stigma associated with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), and promoting links to effective treatment. The webinar will also discuss multidisciplinary and community policing partnerships that helped lead to program success.
